Remington serial numbers located on receiver of your shotgun or rifle. Now you can do this automatically using Remington Serial/Barrel Number Lookup. The top rear, breech end of the barrel and receiver both have the standard Winchester circled "WP" proofmark. The upper tang has the standard three line Winchester factory markings. The first letter of the date code represented the month of manufacture while the second letter indicated the year. 22caliber rifles did not have there serial numbers records recorded by Winchester by year of production. This beautiful example has a Marbles 34W marked front sight with a standard adjustable sporting rear sight, half magazine, standard walnut forearm with a steel end cap and straight grip walnut stock with a steel serrated flat buttplate. This date code is different than the one already listed, as Marlin rimfire rifles (other than the model 39 series) did not have a serial numbers until required to by Law after 1968. It was available in only one style, the Sporting Rifle with a 22 inch round tapered barrel, half magazine with a shotgun type butt stock, however it could be ordered on a very limited basis with some select special order features. Approximately 25,000 were manufactured in total so it's a fairly rare rifle in terms of production. They were manufactured from 1924 to 1932 with this example in 1926. The Winchester Model 53 rifle was actually intended as an updated/modernized version of the original Model 1892 lever action rifle.
